The following was received by Cliff, from Arnie Lambe, too late to be included with the above Update. Terry Barry asked me to put it on our site, and I thought it should be among the Updates.
I have a vague recollection of a discussion concerning the Burma Star Association and the lack of memorials to the men who died in south east Asia. I have a feeling it was when we were at Reading in May. Anyway, I attach a photo which is relevant to that discussion. It’s of a memorial to those men which is situated on the cliffs at Portscatho down here in Cornwall. I only came across it a couple of weeks back. On enquiring about it one of the local ladies told me it was erected at his own expense by a resident, (she thought he was an ex army major), who had been in Burma. It was dedicated by Viscount Slim on May 7th 1988.
Since it may be of interest to some of our members I thought perhaps it may be worth a picture in the next newsletter or publishing on the website. For visitors who may wish to see it it is on the cliffs at the south end of the village.
For those of you who have eyes like mine I felt I should enlarge the Dedication Plaque]
